Too Busy to Write..

Posted in Bloggin' Lessons with tags , , , on November 20, 2007 by luckypad

Ok, so I haven’t written for who knows how many months. It’s been tough a work. Late nights. Websites. Recording galore. All I seem to do since my last post is work. Wow, I guess the moments I don’t work, I’ll post. that way I’ll notice when I don’t work. Technically, I’m working right now. I’m teaching a class right now. I’m teaching a class, but the students are busy building stuff for class, so I can chill for a while.

Tags just appeared on wordpress. That’s cool, I’ve wondered when they would think tags would become useful. I’m gonna be using them more to see how the turnout will be.

Domain Madness

Posted in Bloggin' Lessons on February 20, 2007 by commonthoughts

I don’t understand people buying domain names they don’t use. Sure, they try to resell them for thousands in hopes of duping a fool into a buying their name. Ok, I get it. But if I could buy a domain for $8, I’ll just get creative and try to find another domain. You’ve just created an inconvenience for me.

But I guess I’m the fool if I want to be creative and I pick something that some other idiot thought I’d buy. Because of you, I realize that I’m not creative enough. Thanks teachers.

Know Your Client–Sell Yourself

This is a great article I found on wedshooter.com about the art of selling through observing client’s body language. It’s a great article for its insight on selling and understanding people around us–ultimately selling, if not your products or services, selling yourself.  Read it, you might find it useful.

Why Business Is Slow

Posted in Bloggin' Lessons, Business Strategy on December 19, 2006 by commonthoughts

Ok, it’s the end of the year and I’ve realized that I’m at the office looking at my blog, looking at others, and little to do around the office. Well, there’s a lot to do, but I’ve hit a business block. Little customers and lots of free time.

Many begin to ask, how do I get more traffic to my business? Good question. I don’t know. Let’s take a look at how do I get more traffic to my blog. Well I’ve heard of trackbacks and networking comments, and technorati and stuff like that. But to a beginning blogger, what do I do? I need a “for dummys” book, but I don’t wanna read, so I’ll go back to my business knowledge.

After sitting at my desk wondering how cool the little green light on my Apple adapter is for about 5 minutes, I realized there is little business ’cause neither my partner or I are telling new clients about our business. We want business, but are relying too much on clients to tell others about us. That has worked in the past because our quality, service, and competitive prices have shown clients we know what we’re doing. The problem is that word or mouth from clients is slow. It’s the strongest form of marketing but it’s a slow process. So I have to be out in the world telling people what we do. That’s tough, cause it’s cold outside.

But my tough lesson today: If I want something, I better go out and get it. Businesses and blogs alike, work with prospecting and word of mouth, but you better be out there doing the wod of mouthing. Don’t expect others to help you grow you business or blog for that matter.

Well Here’s to Bloggin’

Posted in Bloggin' Lessons, The Wealthy's Habits on December 17, 2006 by commonthoughts

I’ve known about blogging for about two years now, but I could never see me placing myself in a situation that required determination and process. You know, trying to religiously update a blog just because I thought it would be nice. Well, nice has never cut it. I just don’t have a drive to do something with a constant pace. I’ve attempted exercising with two solid weeks under my belt (my gut still hanging above my belt) giving up as the season rolls in and my mom’s food rolls out (my parents are Guatemalan, so our culture thrives on an abundance of food throughout the season), dieting relies on how much money I have on me (one dollar gets me one McChicken Sandwich! Please hold the mayo, ’cause I’m on a diet, oh and water to drink); so keeping up on something–even if it’s for my own benefit–is tough for me.

So I’m going to hold bloggin’ in content to change my habits. So here’s my lesson for the day:

Bad habits rule our life if we let them. That’s because they’re the easiest to carry. Things that require kinetics on our part make us reach for our excuse book on “Why I Have Better Things To Do Than Positive Things.” It’s easy to be lazy and it’s tough to do something good in our lives, but working hard for something and reaping its benefits is the best feeling a human can feel. Ask a person who is in shape or who is wealthy. They’ll tell you determination, practice, and persistence are the keys to our betterment.
